GSOC

Update: My application was rejected. Bah, what an utter waste of time. Spent a week on the research and on the app.

Another update: I just got some feedback from Llyod :)

Hello all,

No, I don’t want to blog about yesterday’s match. I am too depressed to write about it. Anyway, I have learnt from life to apply past tense ASAP and move on. I just applied Google Summer of Code. Although I was not very interested when my friend first asked me to try for it. But ever since Wordpress, aka the thing that powers this blog, announced their invitation, I couldn’t resist the temptation. Come on, I gotta give back something to Wordpress after a year’s free service to me! Ok, not just me but to all the millions of fellow bloggers.

For the past few days, I have been only thinking about it. Trust me, it’s not just the question of getting selected but also the time I have to contribute for this work. In the end, I made up my mind, finished the abstract yesterday and completed the detailed application today. Click here to view my abstract.

I hope I get selected. A lot of my precious time was utilised in finalising the idea and drafting of the application, pray for me guys!

Swap :)

A blog search would have immediately found my involvement and contact information.

The most basic thing is there were many more students applying than mentors.

We selected both students that had previous experience working with open source and ones that did not. In this case the mentors had the final say on who they wanted to work with.

Applications are a bit of a lottery, and you should not consider not being accepted a poor reflection on yourself.

One last point, although not compensated, if you are looking for experience in open source, I am happy to work with you on being involved in this project or another one!
